Background :

Jagged 2 is a notch ligand belonging to the Notch gene family and is a necessary component for embryonic development. Notch is the receptor for Delta and Jagged ligands, which cause proteolysis of notch to liberate the intracellular domain. It is expressed in the heart, placenta and skeletal muscle and some expression is found in the pancreas, brain, lung, liver and kidney. Mutations in Jagged2 may be associated with multiple myeloma.
