Background :

CDX2 is a homeobox-gen encoding for an intestinal transcription factor, which is exprimed by nuclei of intestinal epithelial cells especially in the rectum and duodenum. It is over-expressed in colorectal carcinoma and related metastases. It was also identified in metaplasia of the stomach and in carcinoma of the gut. CDX2 is not produced by normal mucous membranes of the stomach.
