Tripartite motif-containing 28 (Trim28) also known as transcriptional intermediary factor 1? (TIF1?) and KAP1 (KRAB-associated protein-1) is a member of the tripartite motif family, which localizes to the nucleus and is thought to associate with specific chromatin regions. Trim28 has been reported to function as a co-repressor for Kruppel-associated box (KRAB)-domain-containing zinc finger proteins. As such, it plays a crucial role in early embryogenesis. It appears that the co-repressor function of TIF1 beta is related to its organization and/or maintenance of higher-order, heterochromatin-like structures.
