Ghrelin is a 28 amino acids peptide with an essential n?octonayl modification at Serine 3. This peptide hormone is known as one endogenous ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (1) and shares sequence similarity with the peptide hormone Motilin (2). Ghrelin displays pleotropic actions including growth hormone secretion, feeding behaviour and gastrointestinal motility. Ghrelin is predominantly produced by enteroendocrine cells from the gastrointestinal tract.
