Insulin is a hormone that functions in carbohydrate homeostasis, and acts to decrease blood glucose concentration by increasing cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids, and accelerate glycolysis and glycogen synthesis in the liver, it induces uptake of glucose into cells through its interaction with the glucose transporter GLUT4 (Watson and Pressin 2001). Deficiency of insulin results in diabetes mellitus, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the general population. Insulin is also present in tumors of B-cell origin such as insulinoma (Schiel et al. 2006). Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Immunohistochemistry (Frozen): 1:50-1:1600 Immunohistochemistry: Paraffin sections Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
