The Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria is used as a fluorescent indicator for monitoring gene expression in a variety of cellular systems, including living organisms and fixed tissues. Unlike other bioluminescent reporters, GFP fluoresces in the absence of substrates, cofactors, or other intrinsic or extrinsic proteins. Purified GFP is a 27kD monomer consisting of 238 amino acids and emits green light (emission maximum at 509nm) when excited with blue or UV light. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunocytochemistry and Western Blot. Other applications have not been tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunocytochemistry: 1:1200 Western Blot: 0.5ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Immunogen :

Synthetic peptide corresponding to aa25-38 (HKFSVSGEGE GDAT) of the jellyfish Aequorea victoria GFP (green fluorescent protein). This sequence is completely conserved between GFP and the modified and enhanced Blue, Green and Yellow FP variants.

Specificity :

Recognizes GFP. Detects a band of ~28kD by Western Blot. Also recognizes GFP fusion proteins.
