Desc1 :
The c-myc proto-oncogene is the cellular homologue v-myc, originally isolated from avian myelocytomatosis virus. c-myc protein is localized to the nucleus and exhibits cell cycle-dependent expression In human cell lines and neoplasms. Many types of abnormal c-myc expression have been observed including insertional inactivation, translocation, and amplification. c-myc is involved in the control of cell proliferation and differentiation. Translocation of the c-myc locus on chromosome 8 to the immunoglobulin loci on chromosome 14 (heavy chain); 2 (k light chain); or 22 (l light chain) is described in Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lympho-proliferative conditions. An aberrant expression of the c-myc gene occurs in tumors of different origins such as colorectal, gastric, gallbladder, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, endometrial, head and neck, pulmonary, prostatic, thyroidal, oral, ocular, nasopharyngeal, endocrine, as well as hematopoietic neoplasms. In addition, deregulated expression of c-Myc induces apoptosis in different cell types, with c-myc requiring p53 for apoptosis in many cell types. This fact indicates heterogeneous mechanisms for c-myc-induced apoptosis. Applications: Suitable for use in FLISA, Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation, Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Immunofluorescence: 2ug/ml Immunohistochemistry: Formalin-fixed, Paraffin-embedded sections. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. FITC conjugates are sensitive to light.
