5-Ethynyl-2 -deoxyuridine is a thymidine analog for labeling DNA. Can be linked to an azide fluorophore, such as 3-Azido-7-hydroxycoumarin (Cat. No. 7664) through click chemistry and used to detect DNA synthesis in proliferating cells in vivo and in vitro . Detects very low levels of cell proliferation in tissues with low cellular turnover. 5-Ethynyl-2 -deoxyuridine suppresses cell proliferation in osteosarcoma and glioblastoma cell lines, induces a futile DNA repair cycle and induces DNA strand breaks and apoptosis at a higher rate than Temozolomide (Cat. No. 2706).
