Methylene Blue is a biological stain and redox indicator. Methylene blue inhibits monoamine oxidase A, tau filament formation and nitric oxide synthase (IC50 values = 0.07 M, 1.9 M and 5.3 M, respectively), and inhibits guanylate cyclase. Methylene Blue delays senescence and stimulates proliferation of fibroblasts and skin cells. In vitro , Methylene Blue promotes wound healing, upregulates elastin expression and production, increases synthesis of heme, is neuroprotective (EC50 = 0.18 nM) and rescues the loss of dopaminergic neurons induced by Rotenone (Cat. No. 3616). Also antimalarial.
