p21 is a protein encoded by the CDKN1A gene which is approximately 18,1 kDa. p21 is localised to the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is involved in CDK-mediated phosphorylation and removal of Cdc6, RET signalling, GAB1 signalosome and cell cycle regulation. This protein binds to and inhibits the activity of cyclin-cyclin-dependent kinase2 or -cyclin-dependent kinase4 complexes, and functions as a regulator of cell cycle progression at G1. p21 is expressed in all adult tissues. Mutations in the CDKN1A gene may result in pancreatic cancer and ovarian cancer. STJ97470 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This antibody detects endogenous p21 protein.
