product information
Catalog Number :
NBP1-06707
Product Name :
Methionine Sulfoxide Antibody
List Price :
299 USD
Product Type :
Primary Antibodies
Package Size :
0.1 ml
AltNames :
MetO, MetO, MetO, MetO, MetO, MetO
Background :
Methionine (Met) oxidation is one of the most common posttranslational modifications to proteins that may alter protein structure and function. Accumulation of proteins containing methionine sulfoxide (MetO) is known to occur during oxidative stress. If the reversal of protein MetO to Met is not sufficient it may cause proteins to loose function, aggregate and be toxic to the cell. Methionine oxidation in proteins has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Clonality :
Polyclonal
Applications :
Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry, Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin, Western Blot
Host :
Rabbit
Immunogen :
Oxidized methionine rich zein protein from Zea mays
Preservative :
0.05% Sodium Azide
Purity :
Whole antisera
CrossReactivity :
Human, mouse, rat and yeast.
Specificity :
Specific for all methionine sulfoxide containing proteins and peptides.
Storage :
Store at 4C short term. Aliquot and store at -20C long term. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Uses :
This antibody is useful for Western blot. The size of the band is dependent on the size of the protein that has undergone methionine oxidation. It has also been used for immunohistochemistry on paraffin sections (rat brain with heat mediated antigen retrieval). Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluorescence was reported in scientific literature.
Research Area :
Alzheimers Research, Amino Acids, Drugs and other small molecules, Lipid and Metabolism, Neurodegeneration, Neuroscience, Signal Transduction

Oxidative stress conditions increase the frequency of de novo formation of the yeast [PSI+] prion Molecular Microbiology. 2015 (WB, Yeast) Details: Methionine Sulfoxide antibody used in WB assay for the detection of oxidation of Sup35 translation termination factor in experiments involving the de novo formation of the yeast [PSI+] prion. Fig 1B shows the blot of alpha MetO / Sup35 oxidation in [PIN+ ] [psi+] control strain containing the Sup35NM-GFP plasmid following growth in the presence of 100 uM H2O2 or 100 uM menadione for 16 hours. Antibody also used for detecting the basal levels of MetO in WT and antioxidant mutants namely sod1, sod2, sod1 sod2, ctt1, ctt1 cta1 and tsa1 tsa2 mutants (Fig. 3A), and in methionine sulphoxide reductase/MSRA overexpressing mutants (Fig 3B).
