products description :
Background: This Quantitative Sandwich ELISA kit is only for in vitro research use only, not for drug, household, therapeutic or diagnostic applications! This kit is intended to be used for determination the level of XYLT2 (hereafter termed "analyte") in undiluted original Hamster body fluids, tissue homogenates, secretions or feces samples. This kit is NOT suitable for assaying non-biological sources of substances.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is an isoform of xylosyltransferase, which belongs to a family of glycosyltransferases. This enzyme transfers xylose from UDP-xylose to specific serine residues of the core protein and initiates the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycan chains in proteoglycans including chondroitin sulfate, heparan sulfate, heparin and dermatan sulfate. The enzyme activity, which is increased in scleroderma patients, is a diagnostic marker for the determination of sclerotic activity in systemic sclerosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013]
uniprot summary :
XYLT2: Probably catalyzes the first step in biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycan. Transfers D-xylose from UDP-D-xylose to specific serine residues of the core protein. Initial enzyme in the biosynthesis of chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate proteoglycans in fibroblasts and chondrocytes. Its enzyme activity has not been demonstrated. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 14 family. XylT subfamily. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Glycan Metabolism - chondroitin sulfate biosynthesis; Membrane protein, integral; EC 2.4.2.26; Glycan Metabolism - heparan sulfate biosynthesis; Transferase. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q21.33. Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Golgi membrane; integral to membrane. Molecular Function: acetylglucosaminyltransferase activity; protein xylosyltransferase activity. Biological Process: chondroitin sulfate biosynthetic process; chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan biosynthetic process; glycosaminoglycan biosynthetic process; heparan sulfate proteoglycan biosynthetic process; heparin biosynthetic process. Disease: Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum; Spondyloocular Syndrome
