products description :
Background/Introduction: This Quantitative Sandwich ELISA kit is for lab reagent/research use only, not for drug, household, therapeutic or diagnostic applications! This kit is intended to be used for determine the level of PLA2 (hereafter termed "analyte") in undiluted original Human body fluids and tissue homogenates. This kit is NOT suitable for assaying non-biological sources of substances.

ncbi summary :
Lysophospholipases are enzymes that act on biological membranes to regulate the multifunctional lysophospholipids. The protein encoded by this gene hydrolyzes lysophosphatidylcholine to glycerophosphorylcholine and a free fatty acid. This enzyme is present in the plasma and thought to be associated with high-density lipoprotein. A later paper contradicts the function of this gene. It demonstrates that this gene encodes a lysosomal enzyme instead of a lysophospholipase and has both calcium-independent phospholipase A2 and transacylase activities. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
LYPLA3: Has transacylase and calcium-independent phospholipase A2 activity. Catalyzes the formation of 1-O-acyl-N- acetylsphingosine and the concomitant release of a lyso- phospholipid. May have weak lysophospholipase activity. Belongs to the AB hydrolase superfamily. Lipase family. Protein type: Phospholipase; Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted; Transferase; EC 2.3.1.-; Lipid Metabolism - glycerophospholipid. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16q22.1. Cellular Component: extracellular space; lysosome; membrane; mitochondrion. Molecular Function: calcium-independent phospholipase A2 activity; lysophospholipase activity; O-acyltransferase activity; phospholipid binding. Biological Process: ceramide metabolic process; fatty acid catabolic process; glycerophospholipid metabolic process; phosphatidylethanolamine catabolic process
