products description :
Background/Introduction: This Quantitative Sandwich ELISA kit is only for in vitro research use only, NOT for drug, household, therapeutic or diagnostic applications! This kit is intended to be used for determination the level of UPK1A (hereafter termed "analyte") in undiluted original Human body fluids, tissue homogenates, secretions or feces samples. This kit is NOT suitable for assaying non-biological sources of substances.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is found in the asymmetrical unit membrane (AUM) where it can complex with other transmembrane 4 superfamily proteins. It may play a role in normal bladder epithelial physiology, possibly in regulating membrane permeability of superficial umbrella cells or in stabilizing the apical membrane through AUM/cytoskeletal interactions. The protein may also play a role in tumor suppression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants of this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]
uniprot summary :
UPK1A: Component of the asymmetric unit membrane (AUM); a highly specialized biomembrane elaborated by terminally differentiated urothelial cells. May play an important role in normal bladder epithelial physiology, possibly in regulating membrane permeability of superficial umbrella cells or in stabilizing the apical membrane through AUM/cytoskeletal interactions. Belongs to the tetraspanin (TM4SF) family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.13. Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum; apical plasma membrane; integral to membrane; plasma membrane. Molecular Function: monosaccharide binding; protein homodimerization activity. Biological Process: epithelial cell differentiation; protein oligomerization
