The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody was selected from the Center region of human BPI. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.

Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.

Maintain refrigerated at 2-8 degree C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20 degree C.

Cellular Location: Secreted. Cytoplasmic granule membrane. Note: Membrane-associated in polymorphonuclear Leukocytes (PMN) granules. Function: The cytotoxic action of BPI is limited to many species of Gram-negative bacteria; this specificity may be explained by a strong affinity of the very basic N-terminal half for the negatively charged lipopolysaccharides that are unique to the Gram-negative bacterial outer envelope. Has antibacterial activity against the Gram-nagative bacterium P.aeruginosa, this activity is inhibited by LPS from P.aeruginosa.

Tissue Location: Restricted to cells of the myeloid series.
