other info1 :
Cellular Location: Isoform H1a: Membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. Tissue Location: Expressed exclusively in hepatic parenchymal cells
products description :
Partially deglycosylated plasma glycoproteins and immunoglobulin IgA2 allotypes are efficiently and specificallyremoved from circulation by a receptor-mediated process. Theasialoglycoprotein receptor binds to desialylated(galactosyl-terminal) glycoproteins. It transports theseglycoproteins via a series of membrane vesicles and tubules to anacidic-sorting organelle where the receptor and ligand dissociate. Then the receptor is recycled back to the cell surface and theligand is transported to the lysosomes for degradation.Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinctisoforms have been identified.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a subunit of the asialoglycoprotein receptor. This receptor is a transmembrane protein that plays a critical role in serum glycoprotein homeostasis by mediating the endocytosis and lysosomal degradation of glycoproteins with exposed terminal galactose or N-acetylgalactosamine residues. The asialoglycoprotein receptor may facilitate hepatic infection by multiple viruses including hepatitis B, and is also a target for liver-specific drug delivery. The asialoglycoprotein receptor is a hetero-oligomeric protein composed of major and minor subunits, which are encoded by different genes. The protein encoded by this gene is the more abundant major subunit. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. uniprot summary :
ASGR1: Mediates the endocytosis of plasma glycoproteins to which the terminal sialic acid residue on their complex carbohydrate moieties has been removed. The receptor recognizes terminal galactose and N-acetylgalactosamine units. After ligand binding to the receptor, the resulting complex is internalized and transported to a sorting organelle, where receptor and ligand are disassociated. The receptor then returns to the cell membrane surface. Protein type: Membrane protein, integral. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17p13.2. Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane. Molecular Function: asialoglycoprotein receptor activity; protein binding. Biological Process: receptor-mediated endocytosis
