products description :
ANPC is a receptor for atrial natriuretic peptide. It does not exhibit guanylate cyclase activity. There seem to be at least three ANP receptors: two with guanylate cyclase activity (ANPA and ANPB) and one (ANPC) which is probably responsible for the clearance of ANP from the circulation without a role in signal transduction.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes one of three natriuretic peptide receptors. Natriutetic peptides are small peptides which regulate blood volume and pressure, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac function as well as some metabolic and growth processes. The product of this gene encodes a natriuretic peptide receptor responsible for clearing circulating and extracellular natriuretic peptides through endocytosis of the receptor. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]
uniprot summary :
ANP-C: Receptor for the natriuretic peptide hormones, binding with similar affinities atrial natriuretic peptide NPPA/ANP, brain natriuretic peptide NPPB/BNP, and C-type natriuretic peptide NPPC/CNP. May function as a clearance receptor for NPPA, NPPB and NPPC, regulating their local concentrations and effects. May regulate diuresis, blood pressure and skeletal development. Does not have guanylate cyclase activity. Belongs to the ANF receptor family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, GPCR. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5p13.3. Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane. Molecular Function: protein homodimerization activity; hormone binding; natriuretic peptide receptor activity; peptide hormone binding; peptide receptor activity, G-protein coupled. Biological Process: regulation of osteoblast proliferation; phosphoinositide-mediated signaling; negative regulation of smooth muscle cell proliferation; positive regulation of nitric-oxide synthase activity; regulation of blood pressure; negative regulation of adenylate cyclase activity; G-protein signaling, coupled to IP3 second messenger (phospholipase C activating); G-protein signaling, adenylate cyclase inhibiting pathway; pancreatic juice secretion; skeletal development
