specificity :
This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of human C8G. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between human C8G and analogues was observed.
storage stability :
Unopened test kits should be stored at 2 to 8 degree C upon receipt. Please refer to pdf manual for further storage instructions.
other info1 :
Samples: Serum, plasma, tissue homogenates. Assay Type: Sandwich. Detection Range: 1.2 5 ng/ml -80 ng/ml. Sensitivity: The minimum detectable dose of human C8G is typically less than 0.31 ng/ml. The sensitivity of this assay, or Lower Limit of Detection (LLD) was defined as the lowest protein concentration that could be differentiated from zero. It was determined the mean O.D value of 20 replicates of the zero standard added by their three standard deviations.
other info2 :
Intra-assay Precision: Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay): CV%<8%. Three samples of known concentration were tested twenty times on one plate to assess. Inter-assay Precision: Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays): CV%<10%. Three samples of known concentration were tested in twenty assays to assess.
products description :
Principle of the assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for C8G has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any C8G present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for C8G is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of C8G bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the lipocalin family. It is one of the three subunits that constitutes complement component 8 (C8), which is composed of a disulfide-linked C8 alpha-gamma heterodimer and a non-covalently associated C8 beta chain. C8 participates in the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) on bacterial cell membranes. While subunits alpha and beta play a role in complement-mediated bacterial killing, the gamma subunit is not required for the bactericidal activity. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2011]
uniprot summary :
C8G: C8 is a constituent of the membrane attack complex. C8 binds to the C5B-7 complex, forming the C5B-8 complex. C5-B8 binds C9 and acts as a catalyst in the polymerization of C9. The gamma subunit seems to be able to bind retinol. Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Lipocalin family. Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q34.3. Cellular Component: membrane attack complex; extracellular region. Molecular Function: complement binding; protein complex binding; retinol binding. Biological Process: cytolysis; complement activation, alternative pathway; regulation of complement activation; innate immune response; complement activation, classical pathway
