other info1 :
Biological Significance: Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland. In females, an acute rise of LH called the LH surge triggers ovulation and development of the corpus luteum. In males, where LH had also been called interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH) it stimulates Leydig cell production of testosterone.
other info2 :
Immunogen: Luteinizing Hormone beta antibody was raised in Mouse using LH as the immunogen

ncbi summary :
This gene is a member of the glycoprotein hormone beta chain family and encodes the beta subunit of luteinizing hormone (LH). Glycoprotein hormones are heterodimers consisting of a common alpha subunit and an unique beta subunit which confers biological specificity. LH is expressed in the pituitary gland and promotes spermatogenesis and ovulation by stimulating the testes and ovaries to synthesize steroids. The genes for the beta chains of chorionic gonadotropin and for luteinizing hormone are contiguous on chromosome 19q13.3. Mutations in this gene are associated with hypogonadism which is characterized by infertility and pseudohermaphroditism. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
LHB: Promotes spermatogenesis and ovulation by stimulating the testes and ovaries to synthesize steroids. Defects in LHB are a cause of hypogonadism LHB-related (HGON-LHB). Hypogonadism is characterized by infertility and pseudohermaphroditism. Belongs to the glycoprotein hormones subunit beta family. Protein type: Secreted; Hormone; Secreted, signal peptide. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.32. Cellular Component: extracellular region. Molecular Function: hormone activity; receptor binding. Biological Process: progesterone biosynthetic process; cellular protein metabolic process; cell-cell signaling; male gonad development; peptide hormone processing; signal transduction. Disease: Fertile Eunuch Syndrome
