specificity :
This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of GDF-11. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between GDF-11 and analogues was observed. NOTE: Limited by current skills and knowledge, it is impossible for us to complete the cross-reactivity detection between GDF-11 and all the analogues, therefore, cross reaction may still exist in some cases.
storage stability :
Store all reagents at 2-8 degree C.
other info1 :
Assay Type: Competitive or Sandwich. Samples: Serum, plasma, Cell Culture Supernatants, body fluid and tissue homogenate. Sensitivity: 0.1 ng/mL.
other info2 :
Intended Uses: This GDF-11 ELISA kit is a 1.5 hour solid-phase ELISA designed for the quantitative determination of Human GDF-11. This ELISA kit for research use only, not for therapeutic or diagnostic applications!

products description :
Principle of the assay: GDF-11 ELISA kit applies the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate has been pre-coated with a monoclonal antibody specific for GDF-11. Standards or samples are then added to the microtiter plate wells and GDF-11 if present, will bind to the antibody pre-coated wells. In order to quantitatively determine the amount of GDF-11 present in the sample, a standardized preparation of horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated polyclonal antibody, specific for GDF-11 are added to each well to "sandwich" the GDF-11 immobilized on the plate. The microtiter plate undergoes incubation, and then the wells are thoroughly washed to remove all unbound components. Next, substrate solutions are added to each well. The enzyme (HRP) and substrate are allowed to react over a short incubation period. Only those wells that contain GDF-11 and enzyme-conjugated antibody will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The GDF-11 concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily. This group of proteins is characterized by a polybasic proteolytic processing site which is cleaved to produce a mature protein containing seven conserved cysteine residues. The members of this family are regulators of cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult tissues. Studies in mice and Xenopus suggest that this protein is involved in mesodermal formation and neurogenesis during embryonic development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
