products description :
Principle of the Assay: SYP ELISA kit applies the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate has been pre-coated with a monoclonal antibody specific for SYP. Standards or samples are then added to the microtiter plate wells and SYP if present, will bind to the antibody pre-coated wells. In order to quantitatively determine the amount of SYP present in the sample, a standardized preparation of horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated polyclonal antibody, specific for SYP are added to each well to "sandwich" the SYP immobilized on the plate. The microtiter plate undergoes incubation, and then the wells are thoroughly washed to remove all unbound components. Next, substrate solutions are added to each well. The enzyme (HRP) and substrate are allowed to react over a short incubation period. Only those wells that contain SYP and enzyme-conjugated antibody will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The SYP concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes an integral membrane protein of small synaptic vesicles in brain and endocrine cells. The protein also binds cholesterol and is thought to direct targeting of vesicle-associated membrane protein 2 (synaptobrevin) to intracellular compartments. Mutations in this gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation (XLMR). [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]
uniprot summary :
SYP: Possibly involved in structural functions as organizing other membrane components or in targeting the vesicles to the plasma membrane. Involved in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity. Homohexamer or homotetramer. Interacts with SRCIN1. Characteristic of a type of small (30-80 nm) neurosecretory vesicles, including presynaptic vesicles, but also vesicles of various neuroendocrine cells of both neuronal and epithelial phenotype. Belongs to the synaptophysin/synaptobrevin family. Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Vesicle; Membrane protein, integral. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: Xp11.23-p11.22. Cellular Component: presynaptic membrane; synaptic vesicle; neuron projection; protein complex; synaptic vesicle membrane; presynaptic active zone; excitatory synapse; cell junction; integral to synaptic vesicle membrane. Molecular Function: identical protein binding; protein self-association; transporter activity; syntaxin-1 binding; protein complex binding; cholesterol binding; SH2 domain binding. Biological Process: regulation of long-term neuronal synaptic plasticity; synaptic vesicle maturation; synaptic vesicle membrane organization and biogenesis; endocytosis; regulation of short-term neuronal synaptic plasticity; regulation of neuronal synaptic plasticity.
