specificity :
This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of IL-13. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between IL-13 and analogues was observed. NOTE: Limited by current skills and knowledge, it is impossible for us to complete the cross-reactivity detection between IL-13 and all the analogues, therefore, cross reaction may still exist in some cases.
storage stability :
Store all reagents at 2-8 degree C.
other info1 :
Samples: Serum, plasma, Cell Culture Supernatants, body fluid and tissue homogenate. Assay Type: Competitive. Sensitivity: 1.0 pg/mL.
other info2 :
Intended Uses: This IL-13 ELISA kit is a 1.5 hour solid-phase ELISA designed for the quantitative determination of Guinea pig IL-13. This ELISA kit for research use only, not for therapeutic or diagnostic applications!

products description :
Principle of the assay: IL-13 ELISA kit applies the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique utilizing a monoclonal anti-IL-13 antibody and an IL-13-HRP conjugate. The assay sample and buffer are incubated together with IL-13-HRP conjugate in pre-coated plate for one hour. After the incubation period, the wells are decanted and washed five times. The wells are then incubated with a substrate for HRP enzyme. The product of the enzyme-substrate reaction forms a blue colored complex. Finally, a stop solution is added to stop the reaction, which will then turn the solution yellow. The intensity of color is measured spectrophotometrically at 450nm in a microplate reader. The intensity of the color is inversely proportional to the IL-13 concentration since IL-13 from samples and IL-13-HRP conjugate compete for the anti-IL-13 antibody binding site. Since the number of sites is limited, as more sites are occupied by IL-13 from the sample, fewer sites are left to bind IL-13-HRP conjugate. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The IL-13 concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells. This cytokine is involved in several stages of B-cell maturation and differentiation. It up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells. This cytokine down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This cytokine is found to be critical to the pathogenesis of allergen-induced asthma but operates through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils. This gene, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with this gene particularly close to IL4. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
IL13: Cytokine. Inhibits inflammatory cytokine production. Synergizes with IL2 in regulating interferon-gamma synthesis. May be critical in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. Defects in IL13 may be a cause of susceptibility to allergic rhinitis (ALRH). Allergic rhinitis is a common disease of complex inheritance and is characterized by mucosal inflammation caused by allergen exposure. Belongs to the IL-4/IL-13 family. Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q31. Cellular Component: extracellular space; cytoplasm; extracellular region; external side of plasma membrane. Molecular Function: protein binding; interleukin-13 receptor binding; cytokine activity. Biological Process: response to nicotine; positive regulation of smooth muscle cell proliferation; regulation of proton transport; microglial cell activation; response to lipopolysaccharide; signal transduction; positive regulation of connective tissue growth factor production; positive regulation of tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat6 protein; positive regulation of immunoglobulin production; response to ethanol; positive regulation of protein secretion; cell-cell signaling; positive regulation of B cell proliferation; immune response; positive regulation of release of sequestered calcium ion into cytosol; negative regulation of NAD(P)H oxidase activity; cell motility; inflammatory response; positive regulation of macrophage activation.
