products description :
Principle of the Assay: MBL-C ELISA kit applies the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate has been pre-coated with a monoclonal antibody specific for MBL-C. Standards or samples are then added to the microtiter plate wells and MBL-C if present, will bind to the antibody pre-coated wells. In order to quantitatively determine the amount of MBL-C present in the sample, a standardized preparation of horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated polyclonal antibody, specific for MBL-C are added to each well to "sandwich" the MBL-C immobilized on the plate. The microtiter plate undergoes incubation, and then the wells are thoroughly washed to remove all unbound components. Next, substrate solutions are added to each well. The enzyme (HRP) and substrate are allowed to react over a short incubation period. Only those wells that contain MBL-C and enzyme-conjugated antibody will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The MBL-C concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

uniprot summary :
MBL2: Calcium-dependent lectin involved in innate immune defense. Binds mannose, fucose and N-acetylglucosamine on different microorganisms and activates the lectin complement pathway. Binds to late apoptotic cells, as well as to apoptotic blebs and to necrotic cells, but not to early apoptotic cells, facilitating their uptake by macrophages. May bind DNA. Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide. Cellular Component: extracellular space; collagen; extracellular region. Molecular Function: mannose binding; protein self-association; protease binding; galactose binding; calcium ion binding; carbohydrate binding; calcium-dependent protein binding; receptor binding. Biological Process: defense response to Gram-positive bacterium; killing by host of symbiont cells; immune system process; positive regulation of phagocytosis; innate immune response; complement activation, lectin pathway; negative regulation of viral reproduction; complement activation, classical pathway
