ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene was first identified by its binding to the APC protein which is often mutated in familial and sporadic forms of colorectal cancer. This protein localizes to microtubules, especially the growing ends, in interphase cells. During mitosis, the protein is associated with the centrosomes and spindle microtubules. The protein also associates with components of the dynactin complex and the intermediate chain of cytoplasmic dynein. Because of these associations, it is thought that this protein is involved in the regulation of microtubule structures and chromosome stability. This gene is a member of the RP/EB family. uniprot summary :
EB1: a microtubule-associated protein of the RP/EB family. Binds to the APC protein which is often mutated in familial and sporadic forms of colorectal cancer. Localizes to microtubules, especially the growing ends, in interphase cells. Associates with the centrosomes and spindle microtubules during mitosis. Also associates with components of the dynactin complex and the intermediate chain of cytoplasmic dynein. May be involved in the regulation of microtubule structures and chromosome stability. Protein type: Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Cytoskeletal. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 20q11.1-q11.23. Cellular Component: Golgi apparatus; centrosome; microtubule; cytoplasmic microtubule; cell projection membrane; cytoplasm; cortical microtubule cytoskeleton; spindle; cytosol. Molecular Function: protein C-terminus binding; microtubule plus-end binding; protein binding. Biological Process: cell proliferation; mitosis; cell division; organelle organization and biogenesis; negative regulation of microtubule polymerization; mitotic cell cycle; G2/M transition of mitotic cell cycle
