In vitro, also has barbed end capping and nucleating activities in the presence of Ca(2+). Regulates chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation. MAP kinases p38 and ERK1/2 mediate the adseverin-induced accelerated differentiation of non-hypertrophic chondrocytes. Belongs to the villin/gelsolin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Motility/polarity/chemotaxis. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7p21.3. Cellular Component: cytoskeleton; protein complex; cytoplasm; cell cortex.
