This assay has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of canine CRP. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between canine CRP and analogues was observed.

Typical Testing Data/Standard Curve (for reference only)

Samples: Serum, Plasma, Cell Culture Supernates. Assay Type: Quantitative Sandwich. Detection Range: 0.312 ug/ml-20 ug/ml. Sensitivity: 0.078ug/ml.

Intra-assay Precision: Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay): CV%<8%. Three samples of known concentration were tested twenty times on one plate to assess. Inter-assay Precision: Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays): CV%<10%. Three samples of known concentration were tested in twenty assays to assess.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for CRP has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any CRP present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CRP is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CRP bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the pentaxin family. It is involved in several host defense related functions based on its ability to recognize foreign pathogens and damaged cells of the host and to initiate their elimination by interacting with humoral and cellular effector systems in the blood. Consequently, the level of this protein in plasma increases greatly during acute phase response to tissue injury, infection, or other inflammatory stimuli. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Function: Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells. Cofactor: Binds 2 calcium ions per subunit.
