products description :
Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. An antibody specific to LZM has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with HRP-conjugated LZM and incubated. A competitive inhibition reaction is launched between LZM (Standards or samples) and HRP-conjugated LZM with the pre-coated antibody specific for LZM. The more amount of LZM in samples, the less antibody bound by HRP-conjugated LZM. Then the substrate solutions are added to the wells, respectively. And the color develops in opposite to the amount of LZM in the sample. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes human lysozyme, whose natural substrate is the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan (cleaving the beta[1-4]glycosidic linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine). Lysozyme is one of the anti-microbial agents found in human milk, and is also present in spleen, lung, kidney, white blood cells, plasma, saliva, and tears. Missense mutations in LYZ have been identified in heritable renal amyloidosis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
Function: Lysozymes have primarily a bacteriolytic function; those in tissues and body fluids are associated with the monocyte-macrophage system and enhance the activity of immunoagents. Catalytic activity: Hydrolysis of (1->4)-beta-linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in a peptidoglycan and between N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in chitodextrins.
