products description :
Principle of the Assay: The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to 5-HT-2A. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody preparation specific for 5-HT-2A and Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then a TMB (3,3',5,5' tetramethyl-benzidine) substrate solution is added to each well. Only those wells that contain 5-HT-2A, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm +/- 2 nm. The concentration of 5-HT-2A in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

ncbi summary :
a receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin); activates phospholipase C signaling pathway; involved in promoting cellular transformation [RGD, Feb 2006]
uniprot summary :
Function: G-protein coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Also functions as a receptor for various drugs and psychoactive substances, including mescaline, psilocybin, 1-(2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodophenyl)-2-aminopropane (DOI) and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors. Beta-arrestin family members inhibit signaling via G proteins and mediate activation of alternative signaling pathways. Signaling activates phospholipase C and a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system that modulates the activity of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and promotes the release of Ca2+ ions from intracellular stores. Affects neural activity, perception, cognition and mood. Plays a role in the regulation of behavior, including responses to anxiogenic situations and psychoactive substances. Plays a role in intestinal smooth muscle contraction, and may play a role in arterial vasoconstriction.2 PublicationsManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.1
