products description :
For Sample For the quantitative determination of mouse transferrin receptor (TFR) concentrations in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates. PRINCIPLE OF THE ASSAY This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for TFR has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any TFR present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for TFR is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of TFR bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a cell surface receptor necessary for cellular iron uptake by the process of receptor-mediated endocytosis. This receptor is required for erythropoiesis and neurologic development. Mice that are deficient in this receptor show impaired erythroid development and abnormal iron homeostasis. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]
uniprot summary :
Function: Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptor into specialized endosomes. Endosomal acidification leads to iron release. The apotransferrin-receptor complex is then recycled to the cell surface with a return to neutral pH and the concomitant loss of affinity of apotransferrin for its receptor. Transferrin receptor is necessary for development of erythrocytes and the nervous system 1 PublicationManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.5
