Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for CCR-7 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any CCR-7 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CCR-7 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CCR-7 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family. This receptor was identified as a gene induced by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and is thought to be a mediator of EBV effects on B lymphocytes. This receptor is expressed in various lymphoid tissues and activates B and T lymphocytes. It has been shown to control the migration of memory T cells to inflamed tissues, as well as stimulate dendritic cell maturation.
