products description :
Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for cytovillin has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any cytovillin present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for cytovillin is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of cytovillin bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

ncbi summary :
The cytoplasmic peripheral membrane protein encoded by this gene functions as a protein-tyrosine kinase substrate in microvilli. As a member of the ERM protein family, this protein serves as an intermediate between the plasma membrane and the actin cytoskeleton. This protein plays a key role in cell surface structure adhesion, migration and organization, and it has been implicated in various human cancers. A pseudogene located on chromosome 3 has been identified for this gene. Alternatively spliced variants have also been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
Function: Probably involved in connections of major cytoskeletal structures to the plasma membrane. In epithelial cells, required for the formation of microvilli and membrane ruffles on the apical pole. Along with PLEKHG6, required for normal macropinocytosis.3 PublicationsManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.17. Enzyme regulation: A head-to-tail association, of the N-terminal and C-terminal halves results in a closed conformation (inactive form) which is incapable of actin or membrane-binding
