Principle of the Assay This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for Ang1-7 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any Ang1-7 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for Ang1-7 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Ang1-7 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

All angiopoietins bind with similar affinity to an endothelial cell-specific tyrosine-protein kinase receptor. The protein encoded by this gene is a secreted glycoprotein that activates the receptor by inducing its tyrosine phosphorylation. It plays a critical role in mediating reciprocal interactions between the endothelium and surrounding matrix and mesenchyme and inhibits endothelial permeability. The protein also contributes to blood vessel maturation and stability, and may be involved in early development of the heart.
