specificity :
Human CD36. CD36, also known as GPIV, is an 88 kDa glycoprotein that is a receptor for extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen and thrombospondin. Its expression is restricted to platelets, monocytes, macrophages, erythrocyte precursors, adipocytes, activated keratinocytes, and some endothelial and epithelial cells. CD36 is a multifunctional protein that has roles as a cell adhesion molecule, a scavenger receptor, a signal transducer and in the pathogenesis of malaria via its affinity for Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (PEMP1). CD36 on macrophages functions in the phagocytic clearance of apoptotic cells.1-4
form :
Purified (UNLB) Antibody
storage stability :
The purified antibody (UNLB) is supplied as 0.1 mg purified immunoglobulin in 1.0 mL of 100 mM borate buffered saline, pH 8.0. Store at 2-8 degree C. The fluorescein (FITC) conjugate is supplied as 100 tests in 1.0 mL of PBS/NaN3. Store at 2-8 degree C. Protect conjugated forms from light. Reagents are stable for the period shown on the label if stored as directed.
tested application :
Flow Cytometry; Immunohistochemistry (Frozen Sections); Western Blot
app notes :
Flow Cytometry Suggested Dilution: <= 1 ug/10^6 cells
other info2 :
Characterization: To insure lot to lot consistency, each batch of product is tested by flow cytometry to conform with the characteristics of a standard reference reagent.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is the fourth major glycoprotein of the platelet surface and serves as a receptor for thrombospondin in platelets and various cell lines. Since thrombospondins are widely distributed proteins involved in a variety of adhesive processes, this protein may have important functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It binds to collagen, thrombospondin, anionic phospholipids and oxidized LDL. It directly mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum parasitized erythrocytes and it binds long chain fatty acids and may function in the transport and/or as a regulator of fatty acid transport. Mutations in this gene cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]
uniprot summary :
Function: Seems to have numerous potential physiological functions. Binds to collagen, thrombospondin, anionic phospholipids and oxidized LDL. May function as a cell adhesion molecule. Directly mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum parasitized erythrocytes. Binds long chain fatty acids and may function in the transport and/or as a regulator of fatty acid transport. Receptor for thombospondins, THBS1 AND THBS2, mediating their antiangiogenic efects. Ref.20 Ref.22. Subunit structure: Interacts with THBS1 and THBS2; the interactions mediate the THBS antiangiogenic activity. Ref.12. Subcellular location: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Post-translational modification: N-glycosylated and O-glycosylated with a ratio of 2:1. Ref.8 Ref.14 Ref.15 Ref.16. Polymorphism: Genetic variation in CD36 influences the severity and outcome of malaria infection. Involvement in disease: Defects in CD36 are the cause of platelet glycoprotein IV deficiency (PG4D)[. MIM:608404]; also known as CD36 deficiency. Platelet glycoprotein IV deficiency can be divided into 2 subgroups. The type I phenotype is characterized by platelets and monocytes/macrophages exhibiting complete CD36 deficiency. The type II phenotype lacks the surface expression of CD36 in platelets, but expression in monocytes/macrophages is near normal. Ref.17 Ref.21Genetic variations in CD36 are associated with susceptibility to coronary heart disease type 7 (CHDS7) [. MIM:610938]. Ref.23. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the CD36 family. Sequence caution: The sequence AAM14636.2 differs from that shown. Reason: Frameshift at position 53.
