Unit definition: 1 unit hydrolizes 1 umole of o-carboxyphenyl phosphate per minute at 25°C, pH 8.8. Optimum pH: 8.0. A280@mg/mL: 0.49. Composition: The enzyme is a zinc metallo-enzyme Shussler (1968) reports four isozymes. Chang and Moog (1972) found three isozymes in the enzyme from chicken duodenum (This preparation is from the whole intestine). Acitvators: Schussler (1968) indicates actiation by Mg2+. See Sinvanaesan et al. (1991). Inhibitors: Acidification to pH 4.5 reversibly inactivates the enzyme. Quality Control: SDS-PAGE
