products description :
B7H4, also known as B7x, is a costimulatory protein which is reported to function as a negative regulator of T-cell mediated immunity. Although B7H4 binds an unknown receptor, it is thought to deliver an inhibitory signal to T-cells preventing their proliferation, cell cycle progression and interleukin-2 production. B7H4 deficient mice are only minimally affected; suggesting B7H4 is important in the fine tuning of the T-cell mediated immune response. B7H4 is expressed on activate T-cells, B-cells, monocytes and dendritic cells. Aberrant expression has been associated with cancers of the lung. breast and ovary in humans. B7H4could be a useful prognostic marker in Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC).
ncbi mol weight :
31,259 Da
ncbi summary :
B7H4 belongs to the B7 family (see CD80; MIM 112203) of costimulatory proteins. These proteins are expressed on the surface of antigen-presenting cells and interact with ligands (e.g., CD28; MIM 186760) on T lymphocytes.[supplied by OMIM]
uniprot summary :
VTCN1: Negatively regulates T-cell-mediated immune response by inhibiting T-cell activation, proliferation, cytokine production and development of cytotoxicity. When expressed on the cell surface of tumor macrophages, plays an important role, together with regulatory T-cells (Treg), in the suppression of tumor- associated antigen-specific T-cell immunity. Involved in promoting epithelial cell transformation. Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. BTN/MOG family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Membrane protein, integral. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p13.1. Cellular Component: integral to membrane; external side of plasma membrane. Molecular Function: receptor binding. Biological Process: response to protozoan; immune system process; positive regulation of T cell proliferation; negative regulation of T cell activation
