other info1 :
Immunogen: Vitellogenin from plasma of 17beta-estradiol treated killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus), white perch (Morone americanus), Bowfish (Amia Calva). Egg yolk from swordfish (Xiphias gladius).
products categories :
Antibodies; Abs to Fish
products description :
Vitellogenin (Vg) is an egg yolk precursor protein expressed in female fish, dormant in male fish and female insects, but in the presence of estrogenic endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), males can express the Vg gene in a dose dependent manner. The use of Vg gene expression in male fish can be used as a molecular marker of exposure to estrogenic EDCs.

uniprot summary :
Function: Precursor of the egg-yolk proteins that are sources of nutrients during embryonic development. By similarity. Involved in the differentiation of honeybee larvae into queens. Ref.2. Subcellular location: Secreted. Tissue specificity: Accumulates in the hemolymph. Represents up to 70% of the queen's hemolymph proteins. During the first week of the worker adult life, when it becomes a nurse bee and performs brood-rearing tasks, the vitellogenin titer increases and may account for up to 40% of the total hemolymph proteins. Ref.1. Developmental stage: In queens, first expressed in mid-late pupal stage and a high production is maintained throughout adult life. In workers, observed in late pupal stage and expressed at low levels in adults. Levels can increase in some young workers if an egg-laying queen is missing to the colony. Also detected in drones, but in freshly molted adults and not in pupae. Ref.1. Induction: By MRJP1 during the differentiation of honeybee larvae into queens. Ref.2. Sequence similarities: Contains 1 vitellogenin domain.Contains 1 VWFD domain.
