products description :
NPFF2, a 60kD transmembrane protein, is a G-protein coupled NPFF receptor & shares homology with the seven trans-membrane domain receptor super family. It has a tissue-restricted distribution and consists of a 147-residue-N-terminal domain, 7 transmembrane domains and a C-terminal domain. It binds NPFF and might play a role in pain modulation and opiate tolerance. Reports suggest NPFF2 binds Prolactin releasing peptide and mediates its signaling. Northern Blot analysis detected a high expression of NPFF2 transcript in placenta, testis, thymus and small intestine with a moderate expression in other tissues.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a member of a subfamily of G-protein-coupled neuropeptide receptors. This protein is activated by the neuropeptides A-18-amide (NPAF) and F-8-amide (NPFF) and may function in pain modulation and regulation of the opioid system. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]
uniprot summary :
NPFFR2: Receptor for NPAF (A-18-F-amide) and NPFF (F-8-F-amide) neuropeptides, also known as morphine-modulating peptides. Can also be activated by a variety of naturally occurring or synthetic FMRF-amide like ligands. This receptor mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol- calcium second messenger system. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Receptor, GPCR; GPCR, family 1; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q21. Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane; actin cytoskeleton. Molecular Function: G-protein coupled receptor activity; opioid receptor binding; neuropeptide receptor activity; peptide binding. Biological Process: regulation of adenylate cyclase activity; G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; synaptic transmission; neuropeptide signaling pathway; regulation of MAPKKK cascade; detection of abiotic stimulus; cellular response to hormone stimulus
