products description :
mMCP-8 and its rat homologues, rMCP-8, -9, and -10, form a new group of mast cell/basophil proteases, which are more closely related to the T-cell granzymes and neutrophil cathepsin G than to the mast cell tryptases and chymases. mMCP-8 showed a high degree of homology with mouse granzyme B in the critical regions for determining substrate cleavage specificity. It preferentially cleaves after Asp residues. mMCP-8 mRNA is highly expressed in a mouse connective tissue MC-like tumor line. However, it could not be detected in mouse liver, intestine, lung or ears, indicating very low expression in normal tissues. A strong increase in mMCP-8 levels in the lungs can be detected in infected animals.

ncbi summary :
may be involved in fertilization or reproduction; human homolog acts as an inhibitor of plasma membrane complement [RGD, Feb 2006]
uniprot summary :
Function: May be involved in the fusion of the spermatozoa with the oocyte during fertilization. Ref.2 Ref.3. Subcellular location: Cytoplasmic vesicle secretory vesicle acrosome inner membrane; Single-pass membrane protein. Note: Inner acrosomal membrane of spermatozoa. Ref.3. Tissue specificity: Specifically expressed in testis. Within testis, present only in elongated spermatids and spermatozoa (at protein level). Ref.1 Ref.2 Ref.3. Developmental stage: Not expressed in embryonic and immature rats. Expressed in parallel with synthesis of spermatids. Ref.3. Post-translational modification: O-glycosylated. Ref.3N-glycosylated. Ref.3. Sequence similarities: Contains 4 Sushi (CCP/SCR) domains.
