host :
Rabbit
reactivity :
Inter-species cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to Serum proteins, since homologous proteins of different species frequently share antigenic determinants. Crossreactivity of this antiSerum has not been tested in detail.
specificity :
Precipitating polyclonal Rabbit antiSerum to Human transferrin.
storage stability :
The lyophilized antiserum is shipped at ambient temperature and may be stored at +4°C; prolonged storage at or below -20°C. Dilutions may be prepared by adding phosphate buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.2). Repeated thawing and freezing should be avoided. If a slight precipitation occurs upon storage, this should be removed by centrifugation. It will not affect the performance of the antiserum. Diluted antiserum should be stored at +4°C, not refrozen, and preferably used the same day.
tested application :
Precipitation Assays
app notes :
Precipitation assays. In immunoelectrophoresis use 2 ul serum or equivalent against 120 ul antiserum. In double radial immunodiffusion use a rosette arrangement with 10 ul antiserum in 3 mm diameter centre well and 2 ul serum samples (neat and serially diluted) in 2 mm diameter peripheral wells.
other info1 :
Host Note: Purified transferrin isolated from pooled human serum. Freund’s complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure. Product: Delipidated, heat inactivated, lyophilized, stable whole antiserum. No preservative added. Total protein and IgG concentrations in the antiserum are comparable to those of pooled normal rabbit serum. No foreign proteins added. Reconstitute the lyophilized antiserum by adding 1 ml sterile distilled water.
other info2 :
Reactivity Note: Inter-species cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to Serum proteins, since homologous proteins of different species frequently share antigenic determinants. Crossreactivity of this antiSerum has not been tested in detail.
products categories :
Antisera
products description :
The reactivity of the antiserum is restricted to transferrin as tested in immunoelectrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion. A characteristic single precipitin line is obtained with normal serum which shows a reaction of identity with the precipitin line with purified transferrin. In precipitating techniques as immunoelectrophoresis and single and double radial immunodiffusion to identify the presence transferrin in human serum or other body fluids and to determine its concentration. This antiserum has not been tested in more sensitive assays as nephelometry, ELISA or use in immunohistology, but this does not exclude such use if proper controls are included.

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a glycoprotein with an approximate molecular weight of 76.5 kDa. It is thought to have been created as a result of an ancient gene duplication event that led to generation of homologous C and N-terminal domains each of which binds one ion of ferric iron. The function of this protein is to transport iron from the intestine, reticuloendothelial system, and liver parenchymal cells to all proliferating cells in the body. This protein may also have a physiologic role as granulocyte/pollen-binding protein (GPBP) involved in the removal of certain organic matter and allergens from serum. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
uniprot summary :
TF: Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage and utilization. Serum transferrin may also have a further role in stimulating cell proliferation. Defects in TF are the cause of atransferrinemia (ATRAF). Atransferrinemia is rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by iron overload and hypochromic anemia. Belongs to the transferrin family. Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q22.1. Cellular Component: extracellular space; recycling endosome; cell surface; perinuclear region of cytoplasm; endocytic vesicle; cytoplasmic membrane-bound vesicle; apical plasma membrane; late endosome; early endosome; extracellular region; basal plasma membrane; endosome membrane; coated pit; vesicle. Molecular Function: protein binding; ferric iron binding; ubiquitin protein ligase binding. Biological Process: retinal homeostasis; platelet activation; platelet degranulation; cellular iron ion homeostasis; transferrin transport; blood coagulation; transmembrane transport. Disease: Atransferrinemia
