Recombinant human CD48 is supplied as a 0.2 um filtered PBS solution, pH7.2.

Recombinant CD48, as supplied, can be stored in working aliquots at 2 degree - 8 degree C for one month, or at -20 degree C to -70 degree C for twelve months. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Biological Activity: The activity was tested by immobilized recombinant CD48 (10ug/ml) ability to bind recombinant CD244 with a linear range of 20-100 ng/ml. Domain: Ig-like C2. Host Note: Optimized DNA sequence encoding extracellular domain of human CD48 including a C-terminal 6His tag was expressed in HEK293 cells.

Endotoxin: Endotoxin content was assayed using a LAL gel clot method. Endotoxin level was found to be less than 0.1 ng/ug (1EU/ug). Molecular Weight Note: Recombinant human CD48 is a monomer protein consisting of 205 amino acid residue subunits, due to glycosylation migrates as an approximately 40 kDa protein on SDS-PAGE.

Receptors CD

CD48 is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol -anchored protein belonging to the CD2 subfamily. It is expressed mainly on hematopoietic cells and exists in both membrane- associated and soluble forms. It is a low-affinity ligand for CD2 and is implicated as an important costimulatory molecule in lymphocyte activation. Indeed, CD48 has been described as facilitating cell adhesion, innate responses to bacterial infection, and graft rejection. In addition, CD48 is a high- affinity ligand for 2B4. CD48-2B4 interactions can modulate T cell, B cell, and natural killer (NK) cell functions and cross-talk.The absence of functional 2B4- CD48 interactions impairs NK cell cytotoxic response and IFN- release on tumor target exposure. Furthermore, activated NK cells significantly increase the CD3-dependent proliferation of CD8+ and CD4+ T cells by a 2B4-CD48-dependent mechanism.
