ncbi summary :
The product of this gene belongs to the family of P2 receptors, which is activated by extracellular nucleotides and subdivided into P2X ligand-gated ion channels and P2Y G-protein coupled receptors. This family has several receptor subtypes with different pharmacological selectivity, which overlaps in some cases, for various adenosine and uridine nucleotides. This receptor, found on many cell types, is activated by ATP and UTP and is reported to be overexpressed on some cancer cell types. It is involved in many cellular functions, such as proliferation, apoptosis and inflammation. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene. uniprot summary :
P2Y2: a G-protein coupled receptor of the rhodopsin family. This family includes hormone, neurotransmitter and light receptors. Receptor for ATP and UTP coupled to G-proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. The affinity range is UTP = ATP ATP-gamma-S 2-methylthio-ATP = ADP. May participate in control of the cell cycle and proliferation. Protein type: Receptor, misc.; Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, GPCR; Membrane protein, multi-pass; GPCR, family 1. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q13.5-q14.1. Cellular Component: apical plasma membrane; basolateral plasma membrane; cytosol; early endosome; integral to plasma membrane; lysosome; mitochondrion; plasma membrane. Molecular Function: ATP binding; purinergic nucleotide receptor activity, G-protein coupled; receptor activity; UTP-activated nucleotide receptor activity. Biological Process: aging; cellular ion homeostasis; elevation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; G-protein signaling, coupled to IP3 second messenger (phospholipase C activating); in utero embryonic development; negative regulation of ossification; positive regulation of chemokine production; positive regulation of prostaglandin secretion; positive regulation of smooth muscle cell migration; regulation of vasodilation; sensory perception of pain; wound healing
