other info1 :
Source Note: Normal Serum/Human plasma. Grade: Highly Pure. Protein Type: Native. Biological Significance: SHBG transports the sex steroids testosterone, DHT and estradiol in the blood. Serum levels are increased during pregnancy, in women taking estrogens, and in men over the age of 50. Levels are reduced after menopause and in response to treatment with androgens or corticosteroids. Diagnostic uses include polycystic ovary disease and tests for liver and thyroid function. Contaminants: SDS-PAGE shows a major band corresponding to a molecular weight of approximately 45 kD. Biohazard: Raw material tested at the donor level anf found negative for HIV I& II antibodies, HCV antibodies and HBsAg by FDA approved methods.

uniprot summary :
SHBG: Functions as an androgen transport protein, but may also be involved in receptor mediated processes. Each dimer binds one molecule of steroid. Specific for 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, testosterone, and 17-beta-estradiol. Regulates the plasma metabolic clearance rate of steroid hormones by controlling their plasma concentration. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17p13.1. Cellular Component: extracellular region. Molecular Function: androgen binding. Biological Process: primary spermatocyte growth
