other info1 :
Source Note: Human plasma. Protein Type: Native. Biological Significance: Component C4 interacts with C1 and C2 to form C3 convertase of the classic activation pathway. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is often associated with congenital C4 deficiency. Reduced levels of components of the classic pathway (C1, C2, C4, C3) are common after such activation, e.g. in SLE, acute serum sickness and conditions associated with circulating immune complexes. The common form present in plasma and used in diagnostics assays is the C4c form offered here.

uniprot summary :
C4A: Derived from proteolytic degradation of complement C4, C4a anaphylatoxin is a mediator of local inflammatory processes. It induces the contraction of smooth muscle, increases vascular permeability and causes histamine release from mast cells and basophilic leukocytes. Protein type: Inhibitor; Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide. Cellular Component: extracellular space; extracellular region. Molecular Function: complement component C1q binding; endopeptidase inhibitor activity. Biological Process: innate immune response; inflammatory response; complement activation, classical pathway; complement activation
