Biological Significance: The cytochrome P450 superfamily (officially abbreviated as CYP) is a large and diverse group of enzymes. The function of most CYP enzymes is to catalyze the oxidation of organic substances. The substrates of CYP enzymes include metabolic intermediates such as lipids and steroidal hormones, as well as xenobiotic substances such as drugs and other toxic chemicals. The CYP3A locus includes all the known members of the 3A subfamily of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of genes. These genes encode monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids.
other info2 :
Immunogen: CYP3A1 antibody was raised in rabbit using a synthetic peptide as the immunogen.

uniprot summary :
CYP3A5: Cytochromes P450 are a group of heme-thiolate monooxygenases. In liver microsomes, this enzyme is involved in an NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway. It oxidizes a variety of structurally unrelated compounds, including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics. Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Protein type: Lipid Metabolism - linoleic acid; Xenobiotic Metabolism - drug metabolism - cytochrome P450; Xenobiotic Metabolism - drug metabolism - other enzymes; Cofactor and Vitamin Metabolism - retinol; EC 1.14.14.1; Oxidoreductase; Xenobiotic Metabolism - metabolism by cytochrome P450. Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; intracellular membrane-bound organelle. Molecular Function: iron ion binding; heme binding; oxidoreductase activity, acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen, reduced flavin or flavoprotein as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen; demethylase activity; testosterone 6-beta-hydroxylase activity. Biological Process: response to drug; response to metal ion; response to cadmium ion; response to glucocorticoid stimulus; drug metabolic process; response to nutrient; aging
