other info1 :
Biological Significance: Oncostatin M (OSM) is a growth and differentiation factor that participates in the regulation of neurogenesis, osteogenesis and hematopoiesis. Produced by activate T cells, monocytes and Kaposi?s sarcoma cells, OSH can exert both stimulatory and inhibitory effects on cell proliferation. It stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells and Kaposi?s sarcoma cells, but, inhibits the growth of some normal and tumor cell lines. It also promotes cytokine release (e.g. IL6, GM-CSF and G-CSF) from endothelial cells, and enhances the expression of low-density lipoprotein receptor in hepatoma cells. OSM share several structural and functional characteristics with LIF, IL6, and CNTF. Human OSM is active on Mouse cells.
other info2 :
Immunogen: Oncostatin M antibody was raised in rabbit using highly pure recombinant human oncostatin M as the immunogen.

ncbi summary :
Oncostatin M is a member of a cytokine family that includes leukemia-inhibitory factor, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, and interleukin 6. This gene encodes a growth regulator which inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines. It regulates cytokine production, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF from endothelial cells. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
OSM: Growth regulator. Inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines. Stimulates proliferation of AIDS-KS cells. It regulates cytokine production, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF from endothelial cells. Uses both type I OSM receptor (heterodimers composed of LIPR and IL6ST) and type II OSM receptor (heterodimers composed of OSMR and IL6ST). Involved in the maturation of fetal hepatocytes, thereby promoting liver development and regeneration. Belongs to the LIF/OSM family. Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted; Cytokine. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 22q12.2. Cellular Component: extracellular space. Molecular Function: growth factor activity; oncostatin-M receptor binding; cytokine activity. Biological Process: multicellular organismal development; negative regulation of hormone secretion; tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat3 protein; tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat5 protein; positive regulation of peptidyl-serine phosphorylation; peripheral nervous system development; negative regulation of cell proliferation; cell proliferation; positive regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation; behavioral response to pain; positive regulation of MAPKKK cascade; positive regulation of acute inflammatory response; response to heat; regulation of growth; positive regulation of cell division; positive regulation of cell proliferation; negative regulation of meiosis; tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat1 protein; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; immune response
