other info1 :
Biological Significance: Amylin or islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) is produced in the pancreas beta cells and coreleased with insulin. The amino acid sequence shows great homology with CGRP. Amylin has been shown to reverse insulin inhibition of hepatic gluconeogenesis and to inhibit muscle uptake of glucose.
other info2 :
Biohazard Information: This product contains sodium azide as preservative. Although the amount of sodium azide is very small appropriate care must be taken when handling this product. Immunogen: Amylin antibody was raised in rabbit using amylin as the immunogen.

ncbi summary :
The protein encoded by this gene is commonly found in pancreatic islets of patients suffering diabetes mellitus type II, or harboring an insulinoma. Studies suggest that this protein, like the related beta-amyloid (Abeta) associated with Alzheimer's disease, can induce apoptotic cell-death in particular cultured cells, an effect that may be relevant to the development of type II diabetes. This protein also exhibits an bactericidal, antimicrobial activity. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]
