ncbi summary :
This gene encodes a member of the Aurora subfamily of serine/threonine protein kinases. The encoded protein is a chromosomal passenger protein that forms complexes with Aurora-B and inner centromere proteins and may play a role in organizing microtubules in relation to centrosome/spindle function during mitosis. This gene is overexpressed in several cancer cell lines, suggesting an involvement in oncogenic signal transduction. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. uniprot summary :
AurC: a member of the AUR family of kinases. May play a part in organizing microtubules in relation to the function of the centrosome/spindle pole during mitosis. Localized to centrosome from anaphase to cytokinesis. Two splice-variant isoforms have been described. Protein type: Protein kinase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor); EC 2.7.11.1; Protein kinase, Other; Kinase, protein; Other group; AUR family. Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.43. Cellular Component: spindle microtubule; cytoplasm; spindle; condensed chromosome; spindle pole centrosome; spindle midzone; midbody; condensed nuclear chromosome, pericentric region. Molecular Function: protein serine/threonine/tyrosine kinase activity; histone serine kinase activity; ATP binding; protein kinase activity. Biological Process: positive regulation of cytokinesis; spindle midzone assembly involved in mitosis; meiotic cell cycle; histone modification; regulation of signal transduction; cytokinesis; attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore; protein amino acid phosphorylation.
