Grade: Recombinant. Biological Significance: Malaria is an infectious disease mainly found in tropical countries. It is spread by mosquitoes. It is manifested by fever along with chills and rigors. Unlike HRP1, the exact function of HRP2 is as yet not very well understood. The histidine-rich protein 2 from P. falciparum has been implicated as a haeme polymerase which detoxifies free haeme by its polymerization to inactive haemozoin.
