The Fd region of human Immunoglobulins is located at the N-terminal part of the heavy chain and is an essential component of the antigen-binding fragment Fab. Fd, like the light chain, contains a C-terminal constant (CH1) and N-terminal variable (VH) domain. The hypervariable regions in both the light chain and Fd determine the specificity of the Fab.
