Antigen: Peptide corresponding to amino acids from N-terminal region of human retinoic acid receptor, beta-isotype. The antigen is identical in both beta1 and beta2 isoforms. Immunogen Information: Synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acid residues from the N-terminal region conjugated to KLH. Immunogen Species: Human
other info2 :
Reactivity Assumed Based on 100% Sequence Homology: Canine, guinea pig, mouse and non-human primate. Species Reactivity Note: The antibody has been directly tested for reactivity in Western blots in human and rat tissues. It is anticipated that the antibody will also work with canine, guinea pig, mouse and non-human primate tissues based on the fact that these species have 100% homology with the amino acid sequence used as antigen. Biological Significance: Retinoic Acid (RA; active metabolite of vitamin A) plays a prominent role in regulating the transition of proliferating precursor cells (such as carcinoma cells and neuronal precursors) to postmitotic differentiated cells (Joshi et al., 2005). The Retinoid X receptors (RXRs) family (RXRalpha, beta and gamma) preferentially bind 9-cis-RA and regulate gene transcription by forming heterodimers with a second family of RA receptors (RARs). RAs have been suggested to potentially play a therapeutic role in cervical cancer (Abu et al., 2005). RAs are known to play key roles in neuronal development and an increasing body of evidence indicates that retinoid signaling may regulate synaptic plasticity and associated learning and memory behaviors (Lane and Bailey, 2005).

ncbi summary :
This gene encodes retinoic acid receptor beta, a member of the thyroid-steroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear transcriptional regulators. This receptor localizes to the cytoplasm and to subnuclear compartments. It binds retinoic acid, the biologically active form of vitamin A which mediates cellular signalling in embryonic morphogenesis, cell growth and differentiation. It is thought that this protein limits growth of many cell types by regulating gene expression. The gene was first identified in a hepatocellular carcinoma where it flanks a hepatitis B virus integration site. The gene expresses at least two transcript variants; one additional transcript has been described, but its full length nature has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
uniprot summary :
Function: Receptor for retinoic acid. Retinoic acid receptors bind as heterodimers to their target response elements in response to their ligands, all-trans or 9-cis retinoic acid, and regulate gene expression in various biological processes. The RXR/RAR heterodimers bind to the retinoic acid response elements (RARE) composed of tandem 5'-AGGTCA-3' sites known as DR1-DR5. In the absence or presence of hormone ligand, acts mainly as an activator of gene expression due to weak binding to corepressors. In concert with RARG, required for skeletal growth, matrix homeostasis and growth plate function. Ref.10. Subunit structure: Homodimer . By similarity. Heterodimer; with a RXR molecule. Binds DNA preferentially as a RAR/RXR heterodimer . By similarity. Interacts weakly with NCOR2. Ref.10. Subcellular location: Isoform Beta-1: Nucleus. Isoform Beta-2: Nucleus. Isoform Beta-4: Cytoplasm. Domain: Composed of three domains: a modulating N-terminal domain, a DNA-binding domain and a C-terminal ligand-binding domain. Sequence similarities: Belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family. NR1 subfamily.Contains 1 nuclear receptor DNA-binding domain. Sequence caution: The sequence CAA27637.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.
